John Start himself began his career in jewellery 41 years ago when he worked for Hancocks in Burlington Gardens in London. Here he received a firm grounding in old silver and antique jewellery. He progressed on to work in Hatton Garden for a major manufacturer, building his knowledge in all aspects of the trade.
Indeed, John’s father Eric Start ran a working jewellers shop in North London for over 40 years; John’s daughter, Natalie, proudly wears the ring that Eric made for his future wife Beatrice for their engagement. Further back, John’s ancestors were dealing in gems and works of art in Hatton Garden at the turn of the 19th century!
John Start’s business having moved out of London is now centred in the heart of the beautiful countryside of West Sussex where clients may prefer to view his many collections if they do not care to venture into Central London.
